Phase I of new Marine Rescue Station - the float March-April 2008

Flotation has been carried down the ramp.  Now for the 1x6's

Using DBYC's Zodiac to tow floats provided by Lawrence (marina owner)

Lorne catching and stacking the 1x6's, being careful not to stand under the crane load.

Float modules constructed on back porch of DBYC Clubhouse

George standing out of the rain, giving orders.

Careful alignment of beams will make sure the float is the right shape when finished

Gord used to work on the railroad, so he gets to pound the bolts into pre-drilled holes.

Assembly of multiple modules into final float frame

2x6 decking in place, float awaits the next phase (next year).

Friday, 27th, Saturday 28th March - New trusses up on building (no pictures).  Building wrapped in George Williamson's tarp, awaiting predicted wind storm.

Monday 30th March

DBYC4 001.jpg (226640 bytes)  Tarp suffered considerably in wind storm.  Gord Forster could hear it from his home about a kilometre away. DBYC4 002.jpg (229686 bytes)After the storm, truss-ends have poked holes in the tarp.
DBYC4 003.jpg (216947 bytes)Strapping on one half of roof. Re-wrapped, ready for second windy night. DBYC4 004.jpg (235548 bytes)  What are the chances that hole will not enlarge?

Phase III

The New Marine Search and Rescue Centre

Loading roofing materials onto a float to be moved to the site using Lawrence's famous "tug" boat.

 View of the main entrance

Lumber and water-filled barrels are stored strategically to keep float level.  Note headers for large windows.

Working on float which will become new dock, replacing the old 6 ft. wide one. Pictured L-> R: Rick N., Gord F. and George W.

A lot of joking going on.  But the work gets done tout de suite.

"OK. Now what will we do? Think. Think ..."

The dock behind Mapleguard will be replaced by the 12 ft wide one, now being used as a working/storage area (out of sight on the far side of the storage building beside Mapleguard (see next picture).

The working dock is now in the foreground.  This is the view from the Spit (the "North" view).

Most of the roof is on.  Now comes the tricky part - mating the two roofs, which involves cutting away the storage area roof and building a new complex structure that will not leak!

The main float is loaded on the inside and will be leveled later - hence the list apparent here.

The final phase - to February 2010
